Speech and DebateTo answer some of the questions Man In Chair has received regarding the future of Stephen Karam’s fantastic play, Speech and Debate, the play is currently playing at Chicago’s American Theater Company through May 31 and a new production opened this week for a very limited run at L.A. Theatre Works in Los Angeles.

Bobby SteggertOf the L.A. production playbill.com says:

Speech & Debate, which was recently seen at the Roundabout’s The Black Box, features Gideon Glick, who was part of the New York Speech & Debate cast, as well as “Desperate Housewives” star [and Les Mis alum…] Andrea Bowen, 110 in the Shade’s Bobby Steggert (pictured right) and “Saturday Night Live” alum Nora Dunn.

All performances are recorded and will air on LATW’s nationally syndicated, weekly radio theater series, The Play’s The Thing, which can be heard in cities across the country, including Boston, Seattle, and Albuquerque as well as on XM Satellite radio. The two-hour radio broadcasts include special backstage features and interviews with actors, playwrights and directors.

tobiasragg gives his/her favorable review on the broadwayworld.com boards, but explains something that the promotional material leaves out. Because the show is recorded for radio, it’s more of a “staged reading” with actors standing at microphones through the whole show. Didn’t seem to bother tobiasragg, but it might have been worth mentioning in the press release…
